Advice for Road Runners: The Nike Men's Air Zoom Pegasus 40 in the Black/White-Iron Grey colourway are cushioned, yet responsive road running shoes. The Pegasus first launched in 1983. The Pegasus 40 is the outcome of four decades of evolution.
Underfoot Feel
The midsole of the Pegasus 40 contains two Zoom Air units - with one unit in the heel and another in the forefoot. The midsole also features React foam. For the avoidance of doubt, this is the same midsole set-up that was used in the Pegasus 39. The cushioning should feel responsive, but it should not feel bulky or overly substantial. What we mean by that is that it shouldn't feel as though there is loads of foam between your feet and the ground.
Upper Fit
The upper on the Pegasus 40 has a number of updates when compared with the Pegasus 39. It has:
- More padding around the heel collar.
- New engineered mesh.
- A redesigned midfoot strap.
The updates listed above are designed to help with the creation of an upper that has better breathability and comfort than the upper on the Pegasus 39. It is also designed to accommodate more foot shapes so that it suits more runners.
Ideal Run Type
The Nike Men's Air Zoom Pegasus 40 Road Running Shoes are neutral shoes. They are best suited to daily training runs that are completed at steady to moderate paces, perhaps with some brisker efforts included during parts of your run.
Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone's feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles.
Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb's width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).
This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
